About

CRUMS is a small puzzle hunt consisting of 6 puzzles and a metapuzzle. It is designed for teams of up to 6 people and will kick-off on December 12th. The hunt will take place entirely online and is open to everyone.

Rules

The hunt begins on December 12th at 10:00 AM EST. Three puzzles will be available at the start of the hunt and new puzzles will unlock as your team solves old ones. All of the puzzles will be released 24 hours into the hunt regardless of how many puzzles your team has solved. The hunt officially wraps on December 20th at 6:00 PM EST. At the end of the hunt, the team with the most points will be declared the winner. Ties will be broken based on solve time.

Your team may have up to 6 people, though we suspect that the ideal team size is 3-4. Please do not solicit help from people who are not on your team, especially if they are on other teams.

Each puzzle has 2 hints. Hints will be released automatically as the hunt goes on, but you may opt to take the hints as early as you like. Hints for each puzzle in the first release wave will be given to teams 24 and 48 hours into the hunt. Hints for each puzzle in the second release wave will be given to teams 48 and 72 hours into the hunt.

Each puzzle will be worth 5 points upon release. This point value decreases by 1 every time a hint for the puzzle is made available to your team (whether the hint is requested or released automatically). A puzzle is worth 5 points if solved before any hints become available, 4 points if 1 hint is available, or 3 points if both hints are available.

Lastly, please don't hack the website. It wasn't designed to be hacked, so bad things might happen if you try. Other than that, you can use the whole internet to help you. Have fun! Fun is mandatory.

FAQ

Who made CRUMS?

The CRUMS Puzzlehunt was written by 3 puzzle enthusiasts who want the world to have more puzzle hunts. Test-solving was carried out by our kind and patient friends.

What should I expect from the puzzles?

We hope to create a hunt which is challenging but still approachable. Seasoned puzzlers might find the difficulty comparable to the Galactic Puzzlehunt or recent Teammate Hunt or to the later puzzles on the classic MUMS and SUMS Puzzlehunts.

Is there any cost?

Nope! We wrote these puzzles for fun.

Is there a prize for winning?

Also no. You get what you pay for.
